Explore and experience Singapore like the locals do! Using public transport make your way around the island and discover the real Singapore.

After a short look around Orchard Road you will take the Mass Rapid Transit [MRT] into the sub-urbs!
We’ll start with a visit of Toa Payoh where Singaporeans chose their homes! The Housing Development Board [HDB]– a one-stop-institution were ‘flats’ are available for sale or rent. See how 90% of Singaporeans acquire a home and have chance to see not only developments of public housing but also show-flats of different sizes.

A walk around Toa Payoh makes you familiar with one of the oldest housing estates in Singapore – shops, restaurants, unusual prayer places – the daily life of Singaporeans. Hope back on the train and make your way to the Singapore Botanic Garden.

The Garden is not only a UNESCO World Heritage Site but a 150-year-old marvel that has contributed much to agricultural development in the region. Visit a small but very interesting section – the Ethnobotany Garden – and find out about the relationship of people and plants and how traditional knowledge of plants has shaped human culture.

Continue by train and bus to one-north! One-north is a vibrant work-live-play-learn research and business park that has something for everyone to enjoy! Here you meet among others YODA! Soak in a very different atmosphere before hopping on the train to Tiong Bahru for a late lunch!

Tiong Bahru is a different kind of housing estate as it comprises a large number of Art Deco Buildings that came up in the 1930’s. The other highlight in Tiong Bahru are a variety of wall murals by a local artist that depict the ‘good old days’; the Tiong Bahru Market and Food Centre invites to a local lunch…

Next up the URA City Gallery, rounding up the day’s journey the URA Gallery introduces you to urban planning, constraints and creative ideas to overcome them. You have a change to trace the days journey on a full-scale model.

A short train-ride and you are at Marina Bay with the Merlion and Marina Bay Sands as a backdrop your tour ends.

*please be at the meeting-point 15 minutes earlier for registration/ transport by public transport, participants need to purchase their own fare card [multiple trip cards are available at selected MRT Stations]
